VMware Cloud Foundation PoC
01 / OVERVIEW

Validate the cloud strategy before committing to the transformation.

The VMware Cloud Foundation PoC engagements were designed for enterprise customers considering a move from traditional virtualized infrastructure toward a modern private and hybrid cloud operating model.

The objective was not only to demonstrate individual VMware products, but to show how the complete software-defined data center stack could be deployed, operated and managed as an integrated platform — including compute virtualization, software-defined storage, network virtualization, lifecycle management, operations and automation.

The PoC environment provided a practical basis for architecture discussions, technical validation and future infrastructure planning before customers committed to production VCF deployments.

02 / BUSINESS DRIVERS

From traditional infrastructure to a cloud operating model.

Although the two customer environments were different, the business drivers were similar: rapid growth, new applications, infrastructure modernization, greater automation and the need for a more agile operating model.

01

Modern Private Cloud

Validate a platform capable of transforming existing data center infrastructure into a more automated, cloud-like environment.

02

Operational Agility

Demonstrate centralized lifecycle management, faster provisioning, higher availability and simplified infrastructure operations.

03

Business Visibility

Explore SLA reporting, showback and chargeback capabilities together with infrastructure monitoring and operational analytics.

03 / VCF PLATFORM

One software-defined stack across the data center.

01

vSphere

Core compute virtualization and workload platform for the software-defined data center.

02

vSAN

Software-defined, scale-out storage with policy-based management and all-flash HCI architecture.

03

NSX

Network virtualization, segmentation and software-defined network services integrated with the VCF architecture.

04

SDDC Manager

Central platform lifecycle, workload domain deployment and infrastructure management.

05

vRealize Operations

Infrastructure monitoring, operational insight, SLA reporting and capacity visibility.

06

vRealize Automation

Cloud automation and self-service capabilities for a modern private cloud operating model.

04 / ENGAGEMENT MODEL

A hands-on PoC built around architecture, demonstration and testing.

Each engagement was structured as an intensive five-business-day workshop delivered by VMware-certified AIGO engineers using a four-node VCF proof-of-concept environment.

A consolidated architecture was used for the PoC, with management and tenant workloads sharing a workload domain and resource pools providing workload separation. The purpose was to reduce PoC complexity while still exposing the customer to the key architectural and operational concepts of VMware Cloud Foundation.

The workshops combined platform bring-up, architecture walkthroughs, operational demonstrations and customer testing, so the engagement functioned as both technical validation and consulting.

05 / TWO ENTERPRISE SCENARIOS

Different environments. The same cloud foundation.

Two PoC engagements demonstrated how the same VCF architecture could be adapted to very different enterprise transformation scenarios.

CASE 01

Bekament

Manufacturing growth & new private cloud platform

Bekament was expanding manufacturing processes and introducing new, increasingly cloud-oriented applications. The PoC focused on validating a modern data center platform capable of supporting growth, automation, higher availability and future self-service capabilities.

CASE 02

Globos Osiguranje

Infrastructure modernization & hybrid cloud strategy

Globos was experiencing rapid business expansion and increasing infrastructure demands. The VCF PoC evaluated a software-defined data center model for the primary site together with a future virtualization and DR strategy.

06 / WHAT WE VALIDATED

From VCF bring-up to workload and operations testing.

01

VCF Bring-up

Initial platform deployment and walkthrough of the VMware Cloud Foundation bring-up process.

02

Workload Domains

SDDC Manager workflows, management and workload domain concepts and lifecycle operations.

03

Network Design

Hierarchical underlay, spine-leaf concepts, NSX-T deployment and different NSX Edge placement options.

04

vSAN Policies

Storage policy creation, demo VM deployment, health checks and performance validation.

05

NSX Operations

Configuration and monitoring of software-defined networking components and connectivity.

06

Operations

vRealize Operations integration, operational dashboards, SLA reporting and chargeback scenarios.

07

Availability

Workload-domain architecture, stretched-cluster concepts and high-availability design considerations.

08

Customer Testing

Hands-on validation of platform functionality, workload behavior and selected application scenarios.

07 / MY INVOLVEMENT

Consulting at the point where architecture meets business strategy.

My role covered the presales and consulting side of the VCF engagements: understanding the customer’s current environment and business drivers, positioning VMware Cloud Foundation, shaping the target architecture and preparing the PoC around the customer’s transformation goals.

I worked across architecture discussions, sizing and infrastructure assumptions, customer workshops and technical demonstrations, helping translate VCF capabilities into practical customer use cases rather than treating the engagement as a generic product demo.

The PoCs were particularly valuable because they connected strategic hybrid cloud discussions with hands-on technical validation — allowing customers to evaluate the operating model, not only the technology stack.

08 / OUTCOME

Turning hybrid cloud strategy into a platform customers could actually evaluate.

Both PoCs were completed successfully and provided the customers with a practical understanding of VMware Cloud Foundation architecture, operations and lifecycle management. More importantly, the engagements created a concrete foundation for future private and hybrid cloud transformation decisions.
